What do I get by purchasing?
For downloads (eg. Figma Template), it's simple: you get a download link now and a new download link every time we push an update.
For code (eg. PRO & DevTools packages), you get access to our private Composer repository, to download and install that package. Additionally, you get 12 months of updates and upgrades. That means that if we release a new version during those 12 months, you get access to that version too.
For subscriptions, you get access to all the packages in that subscription, for as long as your subscription is active. That means that if we release a new version of any package during the time your subscription is active, you get access to that version too.
What happens after the 1 year of updates has passed?
You still have access to the versions and updates you paid for. For ever. But you stop having access to new updates and versions. When you do want access to new updates, however, you can make another purchase, which will buy you an additional 12 months of updates and upgrades. Alternatively, buy a subscription, which will give you access to all our packages and all their updates, for as long as your subscription is active. Plus, you'll lock in that price.
Does one purchase cover multiple projects? How about multiple domains?
Yes and no. Subscriptions come in two flavors - for one project (cheaper) and for multiple projects (more expensive). Add-ons you buy individually are all multi-project, multi-user, multi-domain - your purchase covers unlimited projects and unlimited domains.
Does one purchase cover multiple subdomains?
Yes. Every purchase covers subdomains, as long as it's the same Laravel project on both subdomains (eg. staging, production, beta etc.).
Does it cover parked domains?
Yes. Every purchase covers parked domains.
How often do you release new versions?
Normally once a year. And thanks to the fact that every addon purchase comes with 12 months of updates and upgrades, that means that if you buy now, you'll not only get access to the current version of Backpack, but also to the next version.
Does it cover local/staging/testing environments?
Yes. There are no limitation for non-production environments.
Does it cover sublicensing?
No. This payment does not cover inclusion in free/paid packages or forks. A special sublicensing or reseller agreement is needed for that. Please email us and we'll tell you more about it.
How do I transfer the rights to my client?
If you're building websites or web apps for clients, you don't need to transfer the rights to them. They can keep using the packages thanks to your purchase, using your access codes - that's ok with us. But if you want to transfer the rights, you can create a Backpack account for them, and we'll create a new API Key in their account. Email us and we'll help you out.
What do you recommend I buy for my first project?
The SILVER or GOLD subscription, depending on what packages you need. This is the least amount of money you can spend to see if you like Backpack with all the bells and whistles. If you don't like it, we can issue a refund, just email us within 30 days. If you do like it, we can help you upgrade to a multi-project plan, when that time comes.
Do you offer discounts?
Sometimes. In the past, we have made promotions for Black Friday, launches and milestones, but we can't guarantee we'll have them every year.
Can I get free access to premium add-ons?
Unfortunately no. In the past, we've given free access for educational and non-commercial purposes, but we've had to stop that because of how many people were abusing it and the time it took to manage it.
What happens if I purchased a plan for one project and I use it for multiple projects?
You lose access. This is considered a breach of contract according to our EULA and you are liable for compensation. When you are using our software without permission, we will delete your access tokens, so you will lose access to all our software, for all projects. Access can be re-gained by paying a one-time penalty plus a subscription that covers multi-project use.
Do I have access if I purchased a Backpack v4 License?
Maybe. In Backpack v5, we've open-sourced Backpack\CRUD and moved all complex features to Backpack\PRO. But in order to be fair to our customers, and make sure that they get at least 12 months of updates from their purchase, we've decided to offer free upgrades to Backpack v5 to everybody who's purchased a Backpack v4 license after Feb 9th 2021. Can I still purchase a Backpack v4 license?
No, you cannot. Backpack v4 has received its last update in 2022. We've moved all complex features to Backpack\PRO and open-sourced Backpack\CRUD. We recommend you purchase a current Backpack package or subscription, which will give you access to all the new features and updates.
