This month we don't have much to report. We've dug our heads deep into test generators... and still haven't finished them. But that's fine - we're doing the heavy part - so you won't have to. Let me do a quick summary of the month:

Maintenance

  • CRUD - no updates (we're still at v7.0.22)
  • PRO - 1 update

Test Generators - WIP

Pedro has been working more than we'd like to admit... on making it easier for all of us to generate test for our CRUDs. We're 90% of the way there, so by next month we do expect to have the CRUD Test Generators ready for you.

MoR and Subscriptions

It's become increasingly difficult to manage this sort of business in Europe, so we've decided to move to a Merchant of Record (eg. Paddle, LemonSqueezy and now Stripe Managed Payments) instead of issuing invoices ourselves and having our accounting deal with all of the trouble that spans from it. With this change, we're wondering if we should tackle and issue some people have asked for... but we've been reluctant to adopt.

If you have the ability to purchase Backpack both as:

  • one-time-payment (manual renewal after 12mo like now)
  • subscription (renews automatically after 12mo)

Which one would you choose? Why? Let us know in the comments below or by email - we're interested in hearing about this.

Content

In addition to out tips & tricks on Twitter, Mastodon and LinkedIn, this month we've decided to talk more about the web in general, to ask ourselves and others what we need and what we don't, when developing a website or web app in 2026:

That’s it for February. Check back next month - we're pretty sure we'll have some bigger news for you then.

Cheers!
