It's been a slow month here at Backpack - with August being vacation time in Europe, we've taken advantage and took some leave too. That's why we don't have as much to report as usual, but we are happy to tell you we're back with energy and excitement for September - it's going to be a cool month.

Backpack v7 teaser

Backpack v7 - Still in Public Beta 🎉

With everybody seemingly on vacation (judging by the tons of OOO auto-responses we get), we decided NOT to officially launch v7 in August, but instead wait for everyone to get back to work.

If you haven't given v7 a shot yet, definitely do so! Now more than ever... we're ready for you to give it a look, we've been fixing things here and there all month!

If you use & like Backpack - we're interested in your opinion. Please see what Backpack v7 brings and join our public beta program.

What's next?

Over the next few weeks, we'll accept a few more suggestions and feedback, then we will do a soft launch of Backpack v7. We won't make a big fuss (nor any discounts campaign) - but it'll be launched and public, for existing projects to upgrade and for new projects to use it out of the box. So if you want to influence Backpack v7 before it's out... this is the last chance to try it and give feedback.

New Multi-Language Add-on Coming Soon

Additionally, we've been working on a Backpack add-on that makes is stupidly simple to manage multi-language projects. Backpack has long supported multi-language admin panels out-of-the-box, but this... this takes it to a whole other level! The biggest peeve of admins... we've solved it, using AI.

We're very excited to finalize it so it fits a lot more projects - and bring it so you guys can use it too. This will be the first official AI integration of many, hopefully. If you use Backpack in multi-language projects, please drop a comment below to let us know. We'd love to get some early feedback from some of you.

That’s it for August. Thanks again for using Backpack, supporting the project, and helping us make it better every month. Can't wait to launch Backpack v7 & the new add-ons, so all of us can use them in all our projects.

Until next time,
Tabacitu & The Backpack Team

All my projects are multi language :) I haven't had time to try beta 7 yet because I've been working all August and I'm going on vacation next Sunday! :) I hope to see tree-based CRUD in v7... :)

A tree-based view for Backpack would indeed be interesting, Mauro. Open a Github issue with what you need, we might create a new package for it!

Hello Cristi, I plan to rebuild from scratch a larger project that is currently running on version 4.1 and migrate it directly to 7. I’m planning to start in a few days and would like to know if you have an estimate for the production release. Do you think the current version 7 will undergo significant changes before the official launch?

We plan to launch v7 by the end of the month. No huge changes, no - we have one remaining feature that might be a breaking change, but unlikely to cause problems for most people. HEADS-UP THOUGH: I'm pretty sure upgrading from v4.1 to v7 directly will be impossible. You have to follow each upgrade guide individually (4.1 to 4.2, etc). Alternatively, you can create a new project with the latest Laravel & Backpack, and just copy things from the old project. Hope it helps!
Thank you for your reply, I’m starting now with a clean v7.

I started a v7 clean but is there any addons that work with it ?
