We're happy to announce we've finally fixed something that customers have been complaining about for years - our pricing. Don't worry, we're not taking anything away and we're not bumping prices - in fact, quite the opposite. Not much changes - we've just renamed our bundles, added an auto-renew, removed one thing we sold and added another. The perfect solution was right there looking at us, which makes me question why we haven't done this sooner 🤦🏻♂️
Just look at the difference:

First, all our bundles have auto-renew now. We don't call them subscriptions - because yes, they auto-renew every year unless you cancel (like subscriptions). But no - if you cancel... you don't lose access to the software you purchased. In fact, even if you purchase and cancel auto-renew right away... you still have access to 12 months of updates and for-ever-access to the version you purchased. It's just a convenience we've added, that you can safely cancel if you wish.
Second, we've renamed and tweaked some things:
backpack/dataform-modal included in the same price.backpack/dataform-modal, for 50 EUR less;Third, we've added a new plan - "GOLD for one project, 199 EUR". This is for people who only have ONE project, but want to have access to every paid add-on we've created. To accomplish this, while preventing abuse and misuse, we're gradually rolling out "Projects" in your Backpack account. Right now, projects allow you to define Laravel projects where Backpack is used. You define the domains, IPs etc where one project will be live, so we know that project is licensed to use Backpack. Creating a project is optional for now... and we've already created projects for you, depending on your purchases. Starting the next version of Backpack, projects will become mandatory - Backpack will not work without a valid project_id.
Fourth, payments will now go through a Merchant-of-Record. We've moved from a normal Stripe implementation to Stripe Managed Payments - their MoR service. This means your next invoice will not be coming from Complement Software SRL, but from Link LLC. We're eating all the extra costs, so this has no impact on you.
You can still purchase packages individually, at the same price as before. It's still one-time payment, so you can just add whatever you want to cart, if you get a better deal that way.
If you sum it up, we didn't actually change the prices of our bundles either - in fact you get more for the same price.
Our rewards system is still up-and-running. The same reward codes can be added to the Stripe Checkout page, instead of our shopping cart. However, we do plan to phase out our homegrown coupon & rewards system, in favor of a 3rd party service. We'll update you when that happens.
To see our current prices, please go to our pricing page. But in short, here are our current simplified bundles:
backpack/pro + backpack/dataform-modal
backpack/pro + all other premium add-ons
We hope this change will make it less cognitively demanding to get started with Backpack, and easier for long-term customers to just stay onboard without doing anything. Needless to say, it was a lot of work to migrate to this new pricing, and even though we've done our best to cover all scenarios and make everybody happy - we might have some bugs here and there. Please email us if you find flaws or have any concern.
Thanks for being our customers - we literally couldn't do this without you.
Cheers!
