First, thank you for your patience. This release has been a long time coming — we originally planned it for November 2024 🤯 But we didn't just sit on it. In fact, we launched in v6 whatever we could, then we kept cramming more and more features into v7. In fact - some of the things we shipped have been requested for years! For example, we didn't stop at a DataTable component as planned... but created a DataForm component too and hell... even a DataFormModal - things we never thought we'd find time to finish!

Needless to say, the result... makes us genuinely proud. And after 2 months of beta testing and bug fixing, it's now ready for everybody to take it for a spin. That's why, starting November 21st 2025:

  • Backpack v7 is the default version; it will be the only one receiving new features and bug fixes;
  • Backpack v6 will no longer receive features or bug fixes, except for major security updates;
  • Backpack v5 is no longer supported;

You can get a better picture by looking at our support & security timeline. We heavily recommend everybody update to the latest version. We've made it easier than ever.

Who Can Upgrade

Everybody. By that I mean:

  • if you're only using the free packages, they've all been updated to support v7;
  • if you've purchased premium Backpack add-ons and still have access to updates, you have access to this upgrade as well; nothing else for you to do or purchase;

You can check your expiry date for updates here. If it's expired, you do need another purchase to get 12 more months of updates. If you need a discount - I highly recommend you purchase in November - we're having the biggest discounts of the year. More on that on Monday šŸ˜‰

Who's to Thank?

Big BIG thanks to Pedro Martins, our lead developer. It's been a truly herculean challenge to refactor our code to support the new components, and he's even managed to do it in a way that doesn't completely break everything else 🤯 I have no words for how grateful I am for having him spearhead this effort.

But I would also like to thank the other Backpack team members in 2025 - Karan Datwani and Jorge Castro. Their efforts have been instrumental in getting Backpack to where it is today šŸ™šŸ»

And finally, I would like to thank you, if you've ever bought Backpack or told a friend to use it. Without your support, we would never be able to do this.

I don't want to get melodramatic here... I'll let you actually start using v7 šŸ˜€ Use the links above to get started. Hope you enjoy Backpack v7 as much as we do!
